In an era where the ubiquitous box home has distorted the definition of “modern”, the trio of “EB” homes on Pigeon Point have charted new territory in organic architecture, epitomizing Frank Lloyd Wright’s mantra of “form and function are one”. Rather than building these homes into the hillside in the usual fashion, architect Tim Hossner of Replinger-Hossner, designed the forms to float above the city on concrete piers, which in turn are secured by deep steel pin piles. EB1 is the first of three homes in this micro-community, all of which are forward thinking yet timeless. This lovely benchmark home takes full advantage of its sloped lot; with two levels of floor-to-ceiling windows making up the entire western elevation, you feel like your are enveloped by West Seattle views. The boldness of the artistic statement takes nothing away from the warmth and livability of the home. Interior finishes are high quality but simple with repeating themes of black (paperstone counters, steel stair railing, and ebony wood floors), wood (fir cabinets and built-ins), and glass throughout. The design has an indoor-outdoor connectivity that the current owner (a landscape designer) has enhanced with an abundant garden of fruit trees, berry bushes, herbs, and grape vines, all utilizing a drip system. As it is with all true originals, you know it when you see it. The self-professed “amazingly cool” Pigeon Point neighborhood is an ideal location, offering a fun, eclectic backdrop for this special home. The commute to downtown doesn’t get much easier than this with West Seattle Bridge less than 5 minutes away.
